Studio Policy for all In-Person Lessons & Classes

TEACHER BIO & PHILOSOPHY

Renée is a music educator, composer, recording artist and touring performer. She teaches piano, guitar and songwriting lessons. Renée runs a hybrid studio that offers lessons in-person in NYC as well as online. Renée holds a BA in music from Columbia College Chicago and a MMEd (master’s degree in music education) from VanderCook College of Music. She had toured the US with various bands and ensembles over the years and has participated as a theatre pit musician in various Chicago productions. She composes and performs her own music and is currently writing a third album of original music. Renée is a member of National Association for Music Educators (NafME) and is a juror for New York State School Music Association.

Renée incorporates a variety of teaching methods and focuses on a balanced teaching style that incorporates each student’s needs and personal goals. She strives to keep lessons fun while helping students discover their musical voices. She gently guides students to discover core musical concepts such as music theory, aural skills and technique. She believes in building students’ confidence and helping them discover their fullest potential in music expression and songwriting.

TUITION & FEES

Lessons will be billed at a flat monthly rate. This secures a weekly time in my schedule and is not adjusted for lessons missed or canceled by students. The monthly rate for group classes will be the same regardless of how many lessons are offered in that month. Please see the monthly calendar for scheduled lessons.

All lesson billing will be handled in Fons.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES FOR PRIVATE LESSONS

Students are expected to attend their assigned lesson spot each week.
If the student needs to cancel their lesson, they must cancel the lesson via the Fons platform.

If 24 hours’ notice is given before cancellation, the student will receive an opportunity to book a virtual makeup lesson.

Note: Students may makeup or reschedule up to three (3) lessons per semester. Fall semester includes September, October, November & December. Spring semester includes January, February, March, April & May. Lessons must be completed within the semester and do not carry over to the next semester. Missed makeup lessons will be forfeited.

If the student is late, the lesson will end at its scheduled time.
If the teacher is late, the lesson will be taught for the full lesson time.

Cancellations with less then 24-hour notice will be considered forfeit.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES FOR GROUP CLASSES

Students are expected to attend class each week.
No makeups or credits are given for missed classes on part of the student.

For all in person lessons & classes: If NYCDOE cancels in-person classes, all studio lessons will be moved to virtual lessons on Zoom. Students will be given instructions on how to join the virtual meeting.

ILLNESS POLICY

Students who exhibit any symptoms of Flu, RSV, COVID-19, etc including a fever or coughing, should opt for an online lesson if they feel well enough. Otherwise, a virtual makeup lesson can be arranged at a later date.

LESSON REMINDERS

All lesson reminders will be sent via Fons. Please make sure that you are receiving those notifications each week.

LESSON NOTES:

All lesson notes will be viewable via Google Drive. New links will be sent out in early September for the new school year. Please let me know if you’d like to include the child’s email so they can also see the notes each week.
